Marib, 17 July 2024: Under the theme “Towards Broad Public Participation for Sustainable Peace in Yemen,” the Tamadon Foundation successfully concluded preliminary consultations in Marib, bringing together over 52 influential figures from diverse tribal, political, and social backgrounds. This initiative is part of Tamadon’s larger project aimed at unifying peace forces across Yemen.
The two-month-long consultations focused on enhancing public participation in peacebuilding efforts and supporting peace advocates and initiatives both within Yemen and abroad. The goal was to ensure their voices and demands are conveyed to conflict parties and the international community.
Participants commended the initiative’s commitment to broadening public involvement in the peace process and proposed several key recommendations for future meetings. These include strengthening ties between peace initiatives and local authorities, integrating women and youth in Marib into all peace-related activities, and developing a national coalition uniting Yemen’s peace forces. Discussions also addressed strategies for ending the war and achieving sustainable peace based on national frameworks, with the inclusion of political entities and professional unions.
This consultation in Marib follows similar activities completed in Aden and Sana’a in 2023 and coincides with ongoing efforts in other governorates, including Taiz, Hadhramaut, Ibb, and Hodeidah. These efforts are part of a broader series of initiatives, including workshops for peace influencers abroad, the establishment of a media coalition for peace (set to launch this year in Cairo), and regional delegations advocating for Yemen’s peace process.
Looking ahead, the activities will culminate in the second consultative conference for peace initiatives, scheduled for October in Amman, Jordan. The conference will host prominent Yemeni political figures and international peace organisations, further advancing the collaborative efforts for sustainable reconciliation in Yemen
