Yemen – 19 March 2025: Tamadon Foundation for Media and Cultural Development has organised an Open Day for Peace in four Yemeni cities – Aden, Taiz, Mukalla, and Marib – as part of its ongoing efforts to promote community engagement in peacebuilding. The event saw wide participation from diverse segments of society.
The day featured a range of artistic and cultural activities, including a mural painting session in public parks, where men, women, and children came together to express their visions of peace. Participants also left handprints on the mural in support of the campaign slogan #Haya_Ala_AlSalam (Come Towards Peace).
A key highlight was a drawing competition for school children aged 10 to 14, giving young participants the opportunity to depict their hopes for a peaceful future in Yemen through art. The event also showcased artistic performances and poetry readings, creating an atmosphere of creativity and inspiration.
The Open Day attracted hundreds of attendees across all four cities, with winning children from the drawing competition receiving awards in recognition of their artistic contributions. Participants praised the initiative, highlighting the role of art and culture in strengthening social bonds and providing a platform for creative expression.
“This Open Day has rekindled a sense of community unity and collective responsibility in the pursuit of peace in Yemen,” said one attendee.
The event marked the conclusion of the third phase of the Public Participation in Peacebuilding in Yemen project, implemented by the Tamadon Foundation for Development and Culture. The initiative, which has been carried out across multiple governorates, aims to empower local communities in fostering sustainable peace in a country that has endured conflict for a decade.
