April 2025: (Nairobi, Kenya): Dr. Hamdan Dammag, Executive Director of Tamadon for Cultural Development, participated in the Knowledge Exchange Conference on Supporting Feminist Peace Initiatives in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, held in Nairobi, Kenya.
The four-day conference brought together over 35 participants from Sudan, Lebanon, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Palestine, Iraq, Yemen, Syria, Tunisia, Morocco, and Uganda. The event provided a dynamic platform for dialogue, knowledge-sharing, and exchanging experiences around peacebuilding efforts, with a particular focus on the role of women in promoting sustainable peace in diverse and complex contexts.
During the sessions, participants engaged in rich discussions and debates about concepts, contexts, and practical experiences in advancing feminist peace initiatives across the region. The conference also provided an open space for reflecting on personal and collective stories from conflict-affected societies.
Dr. Dammag expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to engage with peace actors from across the region, highlighting the importance of such platforms in promoting dialogue, mutual learning, and solidarity in the face of growing challenges to peace and human rights.
“We had fruitful and inspiring days in Nairobi, where we shared knowledge, exchanged experiences, and discussed critical issues related to peacebuilding and gender justice,” Dr. Dammag said. “Such gatherings reaffirm the importance of collective efforts and regional cooperation to build a future that is more just, inclusive, and humane.”
