Mukalla, July 5, 2024 – The Tamadon Foundation for Cultural and Media Development has successfully concluded the second phase of its preliminary peace consultations in Hadhramaut. Held under the theme “Towards Broader Popular Participation in Peacebuilding in Yemen,” these sessions gathered more than 60 influential leaders from diverse political and social backgrounds across the province.
Over the course of more than two months, these meetings aimed to deepen discussions on enhancing public engagement in peace efforts and stressed the importance of consolidating all peace initiatives and that the voices and demands of Yemeni peace initiatives and activities both inside and outside Yemen reach conflict parties and the global community.
Participants in these sessions have lauded the push for increased public involvement in peacebuilding and have proposed several recommendations for forthcoming meetings. These suggestions focus on formulating strategies to establish a national coalition of peace forces in Yemen and address key issues related to ending the conflict and achieving lasting peace, with inclusivity of all political entities and professional unions.
These preliminary consultations in Hadhramaut follow the completion of the first phase of Tamadon’s major project, previously rolled out in the provinces of Aden and Sanaa in 2023. Coinciding with similar initiatives across other provinces like Taiz, Marib, Ibb, and Hodeidah, these discussions are part of a broader series of activities including workshops for peace influencers outside Yemen and the ongoing efforts to establish a media coalition for peace, slated for launch in Cairo next year.
Additionally, these activities complement upcoming regional visits and the second consultation meeting for peace initiatives in Yemen, to be held in Amman in October this year, expecting attendance from various Yemeni provinces and distinguished global peace advocates.
Since its inception in 2015, the Tamadon Foundation has been committed to fostering cultural and political development in the UK and the Arab region. The foundation promotes peace, freedom of thought and expression, democracy, and human rights, while contributing to peacebuilding, rejecting violence, and supporting efforts toward stability and reconstruction.
